What does hybrid power meter actually tell us

Been driving my 2023 Maverick XLT Hybrid for a few months now, and I still find myself watching the power meter like a hawk lol, but I'm not totally sure how much it's really telling me.
I understand the basics.... green shows regen, blue means battery power, and grey is the gas engine but beyond that, is it actually useful for improving efficiency? like, does staying in the "EV" zone as much as possible really boost overall MPG, or is it more nuanced than that?

It's oddly satisfying, isn't it?! Staying in the EV zone does help boost MPG, especially in city driving where regen and electric-only mode shine. And yeah, it can be a little tricky, try pressing the gas gently, slow down early, and let the car save power when stopping. Watching the meter helps you learn how to drive in a way that saves fuel.

Keeping your car in EV mode can save gas, but how you drive, the road, and your battery level also play a big part. Driving smoothly and using regen braking will really help you get the most out of your hybrid.
