check engine light strangely popping on

we just did a couple's trip with my gf to niagara falls in the XLT Hybrid, which almost 900 miles total.
Gotta say, that thing sipped gas like crazy, averaged a sweet 35.5 mpg!

But here's the weird part: on the way there, about three quarters of the way, the check engine light pops on and just stays lit.

we pulled into Advance Auto, scanned the codes, and the scanner said everything was totally normal.
So, I just kept driving. We stopped for about an hour, and when we got back in, the light was gone!

Then, on the way back home, almost the exact same thing happened. yh, the check engine light came back on about three quarters of the way.
Both times, the Ford Pass app said the light was "Regulatory."
Sounds like some emissions thing, maybe the catalytic converter or something.

do I need to go to the dealer to see what's up? Still, pretty stoked about that gas mileage!

35.5 mpg is actually awesome! but yeah, that CEL is sketchy and it's likely emissions related, maybe EVAP or a sensor acting up. Since it cleared itself, it's probably minor, but I'd still make sure hit the dealer while you're under warranty.

Yeah i think you need to bring it to the dealer when you can. to set your expectations, they might need to keep the vehicle for a bit to try and replicate the issue under similar driving conditions

I agree with the comments above, Regulatory usually points to the O2 sensor or evap system. Even if it clears on its own, you can try bringing it to a dealer check it out especially since it happened twice mid-trip. Could be something minor like a loose gas cap or a software update needed.

You should be stoked about the mpg number, that's pretty sweet considering everything. Now about the cel. Honestly I'm disappointed that something like this would happen on a relatively new vehicle. The Maverick has been around for 3 years, so even if you were the first person to get it, it's still relatively new and most importantly, it's probably still under warranty, so your best bet is to take it to the dealer.
