the maverick I'm looking at buying is the hybrid and the previous owner said there was a problem with it which is why he's selling it at a lower proce. The problem he explained was that in colder temperatures, the engine takes a long time to reach operating temperature and sometimes it didn't manage to do that. I beileive this is something that happens with all hybrids, but I wanted to double check with other owners on this forum. Is this true and is it a problem?

Did it have the recall where they removed some of the radiator louver grille to improve its engine cooling? It could be its side effect or something

Yeah, hybrids like the Maverick can take longer to warm up in cold weather. If it's not reaching temp consistently, it could be a thermostat issue. Have it checked out to be sure.

I completely agree with you regarding hybrids, and it's worth having the thermostat checked if the temperature isn't consistently reaching the desired level. might prevent more serious problems in the future

Yeah, also think it's pretty normal for hybrids to warm up slower, especially when it's freezing out. But anyway, I agree with @MavExplorer here... check the thermostat. It could also be a valve or something?

Doesn't sound too good for 30 below winter days.
What does it cost to have an engine block heater installed? They do make a difference in starting and help with warmup.
