i came across this engine speaker system that promises to make your ev sound like a growling sports car or even a crazy sci-fi ride. glydsphere's the name—they've already got 150 orders, but... is it for real? like, does it actually work or is it just another gimmick to grab your cash?

my friend got one and, sure it works, but saying that it would sound like a growling sports car may be a little exaggerating

It puts a speaker in your EV and connects to an app so it can play engine sounds as you drive. You can choose from tons of sounds (even sci-fi!) or add your own. Just know it won't make your car faster, it's all for the vibes.

I'll probably sound like a hater, but I gotta ask, why? We move from ice to ev for various reasons one of which being the noise and quieter cabin, so what's the need to introduce a noise we're trying to eliminate anyway?

Yeah, I get what you mean. It seems weird to put fake engine noise in EVs when we picked them for a quieter drive in the first place.
