Real-world MPG test

I took a solo drive from Fort Worth to Baton Rouge last weekend and figured it was a good chance to see what kind of mileage I could get on a steady highway run. I stuck to I-20 through Monroe, then down I-165. Temps were around 82°F, AC on low, cruise control locked in. I got 36.8 mpg heading east with a light tailwind, and 33.9 mpg on the way back....splitting the difference, I'd say 35 mpg is a fair highway average, the wind played a bigger role than I expected.

That's a solid trip, like a perfect opportunity to really get a feel for what your car can do on the highway!
It's wild how much of a difference a slight tailwind can make, even when you're on a long, flat stretch of road.
I think 35 mpg is a great average for that drive.

Yeah, that sounds like an awesome trip and great way to put your car's fuel economy to the test! I agree with @happytrooper22, that's an impressive number on a real-world highway run, especially with the A/C running! I'm curious if you noticed any difference in traffic or road grade that might have also contributed to that split?

Decent test run if you ask me. Averaging about 35mpg on the highway with cruise control and mild AC is pretty reasonable, and its interesting how much the tailwind affected your numbers. Those kinds of drives give a good real world baseline for planning longer trips
