I drive the same route almost every day and I just cant help but notice that its got lower mpg during winter season. What is the scientific explanation for this? Assuming its normal.

normally cold temps make engines run less efficiently and takes longer to warm up, oil is thicker, and fuel doesn't vaporize as well. Plus, winter blends of fuel have lower energy content so yeah… mpg takes a hit. Nothing to stress about, happens to most of us.

Now I know, that is a solid explanation. Cheers.

Yeah its normal, cold weather thickens fluids, increases air density, and reduces battery efficiency, all makes your engine work harder and lower MPG.
